What if simplifying regulation isn’t the problem… what if it’s the solution?

Imagine someone saying:

“You’re oversimplifying. Regulation is more complex than an hourglass.”
or
“Won’t this take jobs from OTs?”

What if we’ve misunderstood the role of simplification? What if simplifying isn’t dumbing down, it’s giving people a shared language that finally lets children be understood?

What if the real harm has never been simplicity…
but the complexity gap between what we know as therapists and what parents, teachers, support workers and communities can actually use in real time?

We have decades of neuroscience.
We have sensory frameworks, behavioural frameworks, trauma frameworks, developmental frameworks.
And yet children are still dysregulated every day.
Parents still say “We’ve tried everything.”
Teachers still say “Nothing works.”
OTs are still burning out.
Communities still feel helpless.

The Regulation Hourglass™ doesn’t take work away from OTs.
It gives us back the work we were always meant to do.

It frees us from having to re-explain the basics in every session.
It frees parents from shame and confusion.
It frees teachers from guesswork.
It frees children from being misunderstood.

It simplifies the language, not the child.
It opens the doorway, it doesn’t replace the journey.
It gives everyone a map, so the OT can lead the expedition with clarity and confidence.

OTs still do the deep, complex, skilled work.
The Regulation Hourglass simply ensures that everyone else finally understands what OTs have known for decades.

Because…

If a framework can be understood by a parent in five minutes
but used by an OT for five or fifteen years,

that’s not oversimplification.
That’s brilliance.
That’s leadership.
That’s impact.
