Knowing WHAT to do matters less
than knowing WHEN to do it.
Access Immediate TrainingA practical masterclass to help professionals decide what to do in the moment when a child escalates.
When a child is dysregulated, therapists and teachers are often left asking:
• Should I contain this situation?
• Should I scaffold the child?
• Is this actually a teaching moment?
• Will consequences even land right now?

children, families and therapists across clinical, school and community settings.
This recorded workshop introduces a simple 3-State Capacity Check to guide confident clinical decision-making during escalation moments.
This masterclass is designed for:
âś” Occupational & Physio Therapists and students

âś” Educators
âś” Therapy Assistants
âś” Any professionals supporting neurodiverse children
Why escalation moments are so difficult in therapy
Many therapists are taught tools and strategies.
But far fewer are taught how to decide what to do in the moment when a child escalates.
When regulation breaks down, therapists often find themselves wondering:
• Is this behaviour or nervous system overload?
• Should I push through or pause?
• Why do strategies work sometimes but fail other times?
• How do I explain what I did clinically in my notes?
Without a clear framework, these moments can feel uncertain.
And documentation often ends up sounding vague:
"Sensory strategies were used."
But clinical reasoning deserves to be clearer than that.
What You Will Learn
In this practical 80-minute masterclass, you will learn how to:
- recognise regulation capacity in real time
- identify when the nervous system requires stabilising
- determine when scaffolding is appropriate
- recognise when a child is genuinely ready for teaching and skill development
- understand why strategies sometimes fail during escalation
- strengthen your clinical reasoning in challenging moments
You will leave with a clearer understanding of:
- how nervous system state influences participation, behaviour and learning
- how to respond more confidently in the moment
- how to reduce overwhelm when sessions feel “stuck”
- how to match support to the child’s actual regulation capacity rather than behaviour alone
What You Will Take Away
Participants will receive:
âś” practical regulation-informed strategies that can be used immediately
âś” a simple framework for recognising state-dependent support needs
âś” clinical insights grounded in real-world paediatric practice
âś” practical examples that connect theory to everyday therapy situations
âś” increased confidence in co-regulation and in-the-moment decision making
âś” professional language to support clearer communication with families, schools and funding teams
âś” A 12 page downloadable workbook, learning materials and reflection tools to support implementation after the training
On completion of the course, confidence and a certificate will be your reward.
This masterclass is designed for therapists, educators and professionals supporting neurodiverse children who want practical, nervous-system-informed approaches that translate into real-world practice.

This is what others say...
“Every once in a while, you attend a course that is deeply grounded in theory and evidence while still remaining practical and immediately usable, and this is one of them. The framework helped me better understand why some strategies work in certain moments and not others, while giving clear guidance about how and when to intervene effectively. I cannot recommend this course highly enough.”
Bunty McDougall -Occupational therapist, UK.
“I love a good framework, and this approach felt both practical and easy to apply. There are many resources about understanding behaviour, but fewer that clearly explain how to respond effectively in the moment. The framework was simple, clear, easy to remember, and the case study examples made the learning highly practical.”

“Beryl’s Regulation in the Moment Masterclass offered a fresh and thoughtful way to understand children’s capacity in any given moment. I particularly valued the focus not only on what strategies to use, but when to use them. The framework respectfully considers the child’s nervous system, readiness for learning, and the realities therapists face in supporting meaningful outcomes.”
